Recently I have been enjoyed converting some images to black & white using Nik Software’s Silver Efex Pro. The plugin offers tremendous control of the final image, particularly around the structure in the shadows or hightlights of the file.

On their own, I have created some B&W photos with which I am quite pleased. At some point I changed the blend mode to Luminosity and let the under lying color through, while adding the structure enhancements from the Silver Efex conversion.
