Cyclocross at Ludwig’s Corner

The first two weekends of November featured the West Chester Cross Classic at the Ludwig’s Corner Horse Show. A cyclocross race, a type of bicycle race, consist of many laps of a short course featuring pavement, trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount. Races are generally between 40 minutes and an hour long, with the distance varying depending on the ground conditions. In 2019 the promoter brought his infant daughter, in 2023 both Kelly and Haley came back to Ludwig’s and competed. In the collection you will find an image to mark the event.

Tragically between the two events, Kevin St. Clair was struck by a car while riding his bike. He was a well respected competitor and mentor in the cyclocross community. At noon on the November 12 event the racers rode a commemorative lap in tribute to Kevin.
