I spent the end of July and early August bouncing around the Icelandic Highlands. The Highlands offer raw, untamed beauty, far different from what most visitors to Iceland experience. Travel across the vast lava fields and black sand desert is a trip to earth’s past. You pass ancient volcanos and ridges covered in electric green moss and craters filled with blue lakes.
Getting to the best locations meant crossing glacial rivers and required a special vehicle and an experienced guide. Our private tour hired Jabi Sanz, who directed us to prime shooting opportunities and skillfully navigated the rugged terrain. Jabi’s good humor, skill as a photographer and willingness to tolerate our requests, leads me to enthusiastically recommend him to anyone heading to the Icelandic Highlands.
