On our first day in Patagonia we traveled from El Calafate<\/a> to the Perito Moreno Glacier<\/a> located in the southern portion of Los Glaciares National Park<\/a>. The terminus of the glacier is 3 miles (5 km) wide and height of 240 feet (74 m) above Lago Argentino.\u00a0The glacier pushes toward the land here creating a dam between two sections of Largo Argentino. The water level builds up and eventually ruptures at the point where you can see the narrow channel in the photos. Though we missed the latest rupture by a year (or two), we did see some calving and a beautiful rainbow bridge.<\/p>\n
