This day in Iceland was all about the ice. We started and ended the day on the black sand beach at J\u00f6kuls\u00e1rl\u00f3n. Ice breaks off the head of Brei\u00f0amerkurj\u00f6kull and floats from the lagoon through a narrow inlet to the sea [s\u00e1rl\u00f3n<\/em> translates to lagoon and kull<\/em> to glacier]. Tides sculpt and drive the ice back onto the beach. Between the beach outings we explored the terminus of three glacial outlets, Fjallsj\u00f6kull, Sv\u00ednafellsj\u00f6kull and Skaftafellsj\u00f6kull. This included entering ice caves with the skilled guide Einar Sigur\u00f0sson<\/a><\/p>\n
